Bing Maps API

GET   /api/v1/search?engine=bing_maps

Bing Maps API returns real-time places from Bing Maps in structured JSON. A search for a kind of place, such as coffee in New York, returns local_results with each place's id, category, address, phone number, website, rating, opening status and GPS coordinates. When Bing Maps answers with a single place, such as a landmark, a business or an address, the response carries that place in place_result, with its weekly hours, description, photos and ratings on review sites when Bing Maps has them.

Text in the results, such as categories, opening hours and filter labels, follows language, else market_code.

API Parameters

Search Query

  • Name
    q
    Required
    Required
    Description

Parameter defines the query you want to search on Bing Maps, such as a kind of place (coffee), a business name, a landmark or an address. It can be up to 1000 characters long, and fewer with accented or non-Latin characters, such as 388 Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters. When Bing Maps answers with a single place, the response carries place_result instead of local_results.

Localization

  • Name
    market_code
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the Bing market, which sets the country of the search and the language of text in the results. Format is language-country, like en-us. Check the full list of supported Bing market_code codes. When market_code is set, country_code is ignored.

  • Name
    country_code
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the country of the search when market_code is not set. Check the full list of supported Bing country_code countries. Defaults to US.

  • Name
    language
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the language of text in the results, such as categories, opening hours and filter labels. It takes precedence over the language of market_code. Check the full list of supported Bing language languages.

Geographic Location

  • Name
    location
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the place the map is centered on, like New York,New York,United States. It can be up to 200 characters long. If multiple locations match your input, the most popular one is selected. For exact names, check out the Locations API. It can't be used together with lat and lon. Without location, lat and lon, the map is centered on a major city of the country set by market_code or country_code.

Note: When nothing matches near the map center, Bing Maps can return places far from it. Compare their gps_coordinates with the center.

  • Name
    lat
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the latitude of the map center in decimal degrees, from -85 to 85, like 40.7128. It must be used together with lon, and can't be used together with location.

  • Name
    lon
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the longitude of the map center in decimal degrees, from -180 to 180, like -74.0060. It must be used together with lat, and can't be used together with location.

Filters

  • Name
    filters
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Applies filters, such as a star rating, opening hours, a hotel class or a cuisine. Pass up to 3 values from the filters field of a previous response, one per filter group, separated by commas, like ONow,UR8U. Values are case-sensitive. Bing Maps offers filters for some kinds of places, such as restaurants and hotels, and ignores a value it doesn't offer for the search.

Note: Rating filters are approximate: a place's rating from a review site can be slightly below the chosen stars.

Pagination

  • Name
    num
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the maximum number of results per page, from 3 to 25. Defaults to 20.

  • Name
    page
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Defines the page of results to return. The last page available is floor(60 / num) + 1, which is page 4 with the default num. Defaults to 1.

Note: Bing's ranking varies between requests, so a place can appear on more than one page. De-duplicate results on place_id. A page that pagination.next offers can have no more places.

Engine

  • Name
    engine
    Required
    Required
    Description

Parameter defines an engine that will be used to retrieve real-time data. It must be set to bing_maps.

API key

  • Name
    api_key
    Required
    Required
    Description

The api_key authenticates your requests. Use it as a query parameter (https://www.searchapi.io/api/v1/search?api_key=YOUR_API_KEY) or in the Authorization header (Bearer YOUR_API_KEY).

Zero Data Retention

  • Name
    zero_retention
    Enterprise Only
    Enterprise Only
    Required
    Optional
    Description

Set this parameter to true to disable all logging and persistent storage. No request parameters, HTML, or JSON responses are stored or logged. Suitable for high-compliance use cases. Debugging and support may be limited while enabled.
